Although previous owners of the first Blackberry Storm may not see much difference on the outside, there are vast amounts of user enhancements to justify the Storm’s second release.

Significant upgrade on the overall speed has been increased; response time and the loading of websites have also had a dramatic overhaul. It’s a love hate relationship for those with experience using Research In Motion’s SurePress Technology. With the new upgrade of the Storm2, the technology has been advanced with a more simplified workflow which I’m sure new users will all appreciate.

Need more memory no problem, he Storm2’s built in flash memory has been upgraded from the original Storm. The included memory sizes include 256 Megabytes and 2 Gigabytes sizes. Wireless, or the lack of, has always been Storm’s crutch; well they’ve finally solved this problem by including built in Wi-Fi for all your wireless surfing and application needs.

While slightly heavier than the original model, the Blackberry Storm2 has taken the opportunity to make improvements to the build of the device itself, resulting in a much more solid product. Another cool improvement is the Storm2’s main display is built with less of the unstable movement of its predecessor. Also the chief buttons are now integrated on the main screen eliminating the pesky dust that always seem to find its way in between the cracks of the Storm’s original buttons. Speakers are now placed on the lower side of the device which clears the device of any obstruction to playback crystal clear audio while positioned faced up on a flat surface.

For anyone who’s an owner of the original Storm, there is no need to run out and upgrade right away. The Storm2 carries wonderful features that would make any potential mobile user drool. If the Storm is working just fine and you don’t need an upgrade right away, the original Storm is far from being a device out of date.

The question you have to ask yourself is, if the Storm2 wasn’t designed differently with Wi-Fi would you upgrade? That will seem to be the deciding factor as the inside scoop has it that Storm owners will soon have access to software improvements that will give users similar usability between the two units. As with all mobile toys and upgrades, once mobile users are done with their contracts, I bet there will be a sure spike in Storm2 upgrades. With added features and better build quality if you can stay with the original Storm great, but we all know you all can’t wait for the Storm2.

Tiny, sleek and very stylish, the Palm Pixi is a WebOS based handset which should be available by the end of the year. webOS is the innovative Smartphone platform released early 2009. It was developed by Linux and showcased by Palm, which allows users a unique browsing experience with significant online social network and Web 2.0 integration.

The dictionary definition of a pixie is: fairies that are somewhat mischievous – This cleverly sums up this Palm Pixi Smartphone with its rubberized elfin-like exterior and mischievous interior; somewhat reminiscent of a child’s imagination, filled with an endless wonderland of magic and fear.

The Palm Pixi features a 2.63-inch display and full QWERTY keyboard. This screen size is ample for most mobile uses such as typing lots of text or viewing the webOS. The Pixi’s keyboard may be a tad narrower than the Pre’s but it is far easier to use. It feels much sturdier and features a subtle backlight. If you have very big hands then you may find the keys a little small and sticky but for most users they will be sufficient.

The Pixi is a slimmed down version of the Palm Pre, it is light as a feather and the great features of Pre’s webOS have not been compromised.

An added bonus for Pre upgraders is that the Palm Pixi uses the same battery pack, so both Smartphone’s can swap batteries, if you are so inclined. There are rumours that the Pixi battery is not as powerful as the Pre’s but the difference, if any, is nominal. The Palm Pixi features a better- than-expected 8GB of storage and a fairly meagre 2megapixel camera with flash. This was quite deliberate though as it is shaped like a BlackBerry rather than a sliding phone and is designed with the ‘instant messenger’ in mind as opposed to the hot-shot cameraman.

The biggest disappointment with the Palm Pixi is the fact that it doesn’t feature Wi-Fi. Why? is anyone’s guess. However, one of the best features of the Pixi are the apps, including Facebook, Yahoo! and LinkedIn integration for Synergy. There are also five artist designed back covers available for the Palm Pixi which were specially designed to out-do the competition and appeal to a younger generation.

There are no fixed figures on the price of the Palm Pixi as yet, but it is looking highly likely that this Smartphone handset will be available for under $100.

One of the nicest features is this phone uses a new platform called Web OS. Basically this will allow developers who use CSS, HTML and XML the ability to create apps for the OS without having to learn a new language. Sounds like the skies the limits with this one.

Just in time for the holidays, this week Roxio has announced the release of an all on one hardware/software solution for capturing analog signals to DVD. While intended as a video capture device, with two RCA audio inputs you can also digitize LP’s, CD’s and cassettes and create audio files playable in your portable media player. The hardware is a USB 2.0 device with RCA and S-video inputs allowing to you to capture in a variety signals. The coupled software is meant to be as easy as putting toast in a toaster and geared towards the true beginner. Although the title of the product is “Easy VHS to DVD”, don’t be fooled; you can also output audio and video to a variety of mobile devices includingPods, iPhones, and PSP's and video to be used on the internet.
